First Nesters Leadership

Board of  Directors

First Nesters is an all-volunteer organization.  Leadership is provided by a nine member Board of Directors, each of whom plays an active role in the fulfillment of the First Nesters mission of “Creating Comfortable Homes for Youth Leaving Foster Care.”  While their personal and professional backgrounds vary, each director plays an active role in fulfilling the organization’s mission, and each in shares in the knowledge that God requires us to reach out to those who are less fortunate.

Jane Ford

Jane holds bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia. She is a co- owner of Ford & Associates, Inc., a municipal financial advisory firm in Tampa.  She is a Meals on Wheels sustainer and a member of Hospice Women of Philanthropy.  She is a former trustee of the Tampa Preparatory School.

Debra Jo Alexander
Deb is an independent consultant to the insurance industry on issues relating to insurance agency automation. She is originally from central Pennsylvania, where she obtained her insurance licenses and professional designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor. Deb holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lebanon Valley College. She works at Bayshore as the Administrator and is a preschool volunteer. Her organizational skills are legendary.

Karen Rooks

A native Floridian and a Tampa resident for more than 40 years, Karen has a strong record of professional and chartable ommitment to our community.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University West Florida and an MBA in Finance from the University of Tampa.  Karen spent more than 31 years with a major telecommunications here in Florida and was both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).  For nearly fifteen years, Karen has been involved in hurricane disaster relief efforts and was an early First Nesters volunteer.   Karen and her husband Ron have been married for 43 years, and are the proud parents of two daughters.  When not furnishing apartments with First Nesters, or assisting is disaster relief efforts, Karen and Ron enjoy activities at the Davis Island Yacht Club.

Gloria Scarle
Gloria received her bachelor of arts degree in Psychology/Sociology from Lebanon Valley College. Her professional designations include Certified Insurance Counselor and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. For the past 20 years, Gloria has been an owner and Comptroller of Triad Construction Services, Inc., a commercial general contracting company located in Tampa. She currently serves as a founding board member and Treasurer of First Nesters. She is also very active at Bayshore Baptist Church serving as; its Treasurer, a Sunday School teacher and on a number of other committees. Her problem-solving abilities have been the salvation of many projects and individuals.

Melissa Scarle
Melissa graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor of science degree. She has a background in marketing and sales, and is an owner of Triad Construction Services, Inc. In addition to her very active role with First Nesters, Melissa has served in numerous volunteer leadership roles on church, civic and youth sports organizations. Melissa has been on staff at Bayshore Baptist Church from 2014 until present, as the Children’s Director.  She developed many of the procedures and guidelines used by First Nesters to serve the community.

Tammy Snyder

As a military spouse, Tammy spent almost 30 years following, and traveling with, her Air Force husband and her two children to lots of fun and interesting places throughout the world.  She has served in numerous volunteer leadership and advisory roles with multiple civic and military organizations at locations throughout the U.S.  The Snyder family settled in Tampa in 2007, and Tammy now serves as Minister to Adults at Bayshore Baptist church.  She holds a M.Ed. From Temple University and is pursuing seminary degree.

Jerry Ford

Jerry is a co-founder of First Nesters and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from California State University at Los Angeles, and from the University of Southern California respectively. He is the president of Ford and Associates Inc., and FAI Capital Management Inc. in Tampa. In addition to his work with First Nesters, Jerry has served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and is a former Treasurer and Trustee of Tampa Preparatory School.  He also serves as a deacon and a member of Bayshore’s financial board.
